Penn State- Fantastic Week 5

Wow, I simply can't believe it's week 5 already!!

This week was full of fun activities and it was a whirlwind of excitement.

I'll be giving a few highlights that I found especially awesome, since we were a part of so many events this week.

On Monday (June 15th), we went on the compost tour with Al and learned more about sustainability. It was incredible to drive around to the composting sites and hear about Al's initiatives for building a greener campus. Seeing one of the parks completely built out of recyclable materials and how the compost is made was enlightening.

At the end of the tour, we got a "Survived the Compost Tour with Al!" button and a scented pencil made out of recycled newspaper. It felt super special and slightly bittersweet because Al was retiring in two weeks!

I also really enjoyed the laundry facility tour. It was so impressive to see how such a large volume of laundry is processed throughout the entire campus!!

Behold... the laundry wheel of brie!!

On Thursday the 18th, we went to Tait Farm and had a tour... it was such a beautiful place that inspired me to grow some of my own vegetables and fruits!

On Friday the 19th, we went on a Wegmans tour with the store manager, Jimmy Bellis. He showed us a short video about how Wegmans was the #1 supermarket in America and how it is truly a family here at the store. Everyone really has passion for the work they do and as a personal fan of Wegmans, it was great to hear about the high quality of all the products, especially of the Wegmans brand "Food You Feel Good About." Definitely one of my favourite places to shop!

Over the weekend, Sarah and I went on an impromptu trip to New York City with one of our other intern friends. It was a blast!!

Shout-out to PA ;)

Enjoying the night lights.

At the Coney Island boardwalk!

We were just in time for the Mermaid Parade... only in New York can you find such amazingly dressed merpeople...

We also made it to the Athleta Solstice yoga event right in the middle of Time Square!! How amazing!

Finally, no trip to New York is complete without a visit to Lady Liberty herself...

Looking forward to week 6 ahead!
