Week 3 - Montana State University

This was an exciting week for both of us because we both closed our first business deal! We spent a lot of time our first two weeks doing research on products, crunching numbers and price comparisons, and weighing out the pros and cons of the products we were looking at, including aesthetics. Chloe closed her deal with General Mills for our cereal choices and Alyssa closed the deal with Heinz for our bulk condiment needs.

We also had the opportunity to tour an amazing cook/chill operation that the Bozeman School District uses. They are one of the only school districts in the nation to sell to outside companies to supplement the revenue they get from their school lunch program, and they actually make a profit.

The equipment used allows them to cook very large batches in an efficient and consistent manner. After the food has been cooked, they vacuum seal it into bags and quickly cool it down in a cold water bath with constantly circulating cold water. This decreases the growth of bacteria and lengthens the shelf life of the food. We are getting many new items from this operation for the Miller remodel, such as taco meat and all of our ranch dressing.
This machine vacuum seals the food.
This is able to cook 1100 lbs of ground meat at a time!
Every Friday we go to Miller Dining Hall to tour the progress of the remodel. The stations are really coming together now and it is fun to track the progress!

Chloe and I are still exploring the Bozeman area, trying to find our way around. We always find something fun to do, even if we end up 60 miles away from where we were trying to go. We have gone on more hikes and found some great bike trails. We found a nice man to get a shot of us when we were on our 28 mile ride, complete with unplanned matching shirts, turtle helmets, sweaty faces, and double chins :)

Tune in next week for more entertaining and attractive pictures :)
