Week 6
Woo wee! Fun time is over. (The pictures are from our trip to New York last Sunday. Had to post a few more.) Time to work
now. This past week was a whirlwind of early mornings and long shifts shadowing
the managers at Pollock. It was awesome to be able to walk through any door,
perform any task, ask anyone to do anything, jump on the dishwashing line, prep
food, serve food…anything that is needed. It was like someone gave us the
master key to the whole dining hall. That was a really cool feeling. We learned
how to hire/fire someone, the ins and outs of union contracts, the
responsibilities of grade 10’s, 9’s, 8’s, and 7’s, and many other things.
Marisa and I ended up being in charge of making smoothies for breakfast and
setting up the Nescafé machines, which I enjoyed. We also toured the warehouse
and I went for a ride to Findlay with a deliveryman. It was cool to see how
everything is packed into a truck, delivered, and exchanged for carts at the
dining halls on campus. There are so many things that go into a simple delivery
that most people wouldn’t think about.
Next week Marisa and I will be working
at Findlay from 4:30am-1:30pm, Monday through Friday. Busy week, but we’ll get
to participate in a few ingredient/recipe tastings, so that will be fun. Enough
for now! Hope everyone else is having a great time with their NACUFS
adventures.
