Week 6 - Montana State

We began the week as interior food service designers. We have the responsibility of organizing the new breakfast nook area of the Miller remodel. We analyzed the original blueprints and what was actually being built in that area to determine the best flow of traffic of people to the breakfast items. We looked at the dimensions of equipment and counter space to decide the type and quantity of products we could put on the menu for that area.

Nook blueprints and product catalog!

We also organized our first cutting with the managers and other food service staff to select cookie and pastry brands. Over the weeks we have coordinated samples from five different vendors. This week, we got to be the chefs and prepared 30 different products for our hungry samplers! They gave us their feedback by signing their initials with a smiley face, sad face, or indifferent face. We dutifully fulfilled our role of cookie and pastry connoisseurs. Despite our full bellies, we were able to make an informed decision. We satisfied our hard working construction team at Miller dining hall with full sheet pans of leftovers, urging them on towards an early finish date.
Unflattering aprons did us no favors...or maybe it was all the cookies :)
For fun this week, we finally found the elusive Lava Lake trailhead. Previous attempts ended up 60 miles away with no lake in sight. We learned that 2nd time's a charm and with determination, we can find what we are looking for. It was a beautiful hike with a babbling creek following the trail leading to a lake surrounded by mountains at the top.

We also checked out the Lewis and Clark Caverns with all of the other tourists. After trips like these, we feel more like locals than visitors.

Once a month, Bozeman has an art walk downtown where the galleries stay open to showcase art and offer hors d'oeuvres. We had a wonderful time with our ridge "rescue team," Jeri and Dave :)
